A motion tabled by Cllr Chris Pender (SD) is to call on the council to carry out a comprehensive review of road safety along Athgarvan Road.

The motion is due to be heard at a meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District on Wednesday February 19 2025.

The review is to include an assessment of “speeding concerns” and the adequacy of footpath widths, and to bring forward recommendations for necessary traffic calming measures and footpath improvements to enhance pedestrian safety.

Meanwhile, Cllr Pat Balfe (SD) is to call on Kildare County Council to carry out a comprehensive review of road safety along Cowpasture Road, Monasterevin.

This is to include an assessment of speeding concerns, and to bring forward recommendations for necessary traffic calming measures and to enhance pedestrian safety.

A separate motion by Cllr Balfe will call on the council to consider measures to improve driver safety at the junction of the R414 (Rathangan Road) and L3009 (Barraderra Road) “through traffic signalling or enhancing sight lines for drivers travelling on the L3009 exiting onto the R414.”

A motion by Cllr Noel Heavey (FF) at next Wednesday's (February 19) Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting will ask the council to outline its policy on the installation of ‘yellow boxes’ “to facilitate egress and entrance to Newbridge Housing Estates at busy times.”

In terms of Municipal District meeting questions, Cllr Pat Balfe (SD) will ask if the council can it provide details of the expected completion date for the Monasterevin Safe Routes to School Programme.

And Cllr Noel Heavey (FF) has a similar question, asking the council if it could confirm “what applications for grant funding for ‘sustainable traffic’ projects to include ‘Safe Routes to School’ projects in this Municipal district area have been applied for to the NTA or are scheduled to be applied for?”

Cllr Chris Pender (SD) will ask the Municipal District meeting whether Old Connell Estate in Newbridge will be included in the next available works programme for road resurfacing and line marking.

If this is not the case, Cllr Pender will request a timeline for when “these essential works” could be scheduled.

Meanwhile, Cllr Kevin Duffy (FG) is to ask that the council mark two disabled car parking spaces to the front of St. Evin’s Park, Monasterevin to support vulnerable residents in this area.
