Kildare County Council is running a Climate Course for the over 60s, taking place in Maynooth from Thursday, 27th March 2025 to Thursday, 26th June 2025.
The six-week course, with two hour sessions each week, will explain in simple terms how our everyday actions, like making a cup of tea or taking a shower, are connected to climate change.
Under the guidance of tutor Jacinta Barrins, a retired UN diplomat, participants will get to grips with climate change terminology and will have the opportunity to measure their own carbon footprint. With this knowledge, individuals will be encouraged to identify actions they can take to reduce their carbon emissions.
Understanding the factors that influence behavioral change will help participants implement these actions.
The course will be co-chaired by Peter Hamilton and Mary Jennings, both from the Maynooth community. One of the sessions will cover SEAI grants available for home retrofitting and energy upgrades. Other optional sessions could include a visit to Kildare County Council’s Demo House and information on nutrition and biodiversity.
The Climate course will also assist in preparing applications for climate funding by explaining the economic, health and climate costs and benefits of climate action.

Dates: 27th March, 3rd April, 10th April, 15th May, 22nd May and 26th June 2025.
