Local Fianna Fáil Senator, and Deputy Leader of Seanad Éireann Fiona O’Loughlin, has welcomed news that the Curragh Community School has been granted planning permission for their new school build.

The building will service over 1,000 pupils, and Senator O’Loughlin says it is a momentous day for the school, their pupils and staff, and many families across Kildare Town, Newbridge, and The Curragh.

Speaking on the news O’Loughlin said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been informed that Curragh Community School has been granted planning permission for their new build by An Bórd Pleanála.

“I know this has been anticipated for some time, and now the students, pupils, and staff of the Curragh Community School will have a newly built school with first class resources for all pupils”, she said.

According to Senator O’Loughlin the tender date is in April of this year, which means works could begin to be carried out on the new build by the end of the summer.

Senator O’Loughlin said the new school will enhance the local community and ensure that students and staff alike will have a first-class schooling environment going forward.

“This is fantastic news for Kildare. The newly built school building of the Curragh Community School will ensure the enhancement of local communities right across the county, contribute to our local economy, and provide a first-class teaching and learning facilities for all.

"I would like to thank former Minister for Education Norma Foley for all her help, who i worked closely alongside to expedite this project”, she concluded.
