The National Transport Authority and Dublin Bus have announced that 45 daily peak-times services are to run between Heuston Station and UCD from Monday, March 3.

Minister James Lawless said he acted on representations to his constituency office in Kildare North following the phasing out of the old 145 bus route as part of the Bus Connects reconfiguration of bus services across the country.

He met with the NTA to discuss his concerns.

Following this meeting, from next Monday, all services on routes X25, X26, X27, X28, X30, X31 and X32 will now offer connectivity between Heuston and Belfield including 25 departures in the morning peak and 20 in the evening.

X services will commence from 6.40am in the morning, returning from 16.12 in the afternoon and the following areas will be served:

  • X25 and X26 will run from the Maynooth area
  • X27 and X28 will run from the Celbridge area
  • X30 buses run from Adamstown
  • X31 and X32 will run from the Leixlip area.

While X25, X27, X28 an X30 already run to UCD, they will now be picking passengers up at Heuston for the first time.

X26, X31 and X32 routes are being extended from the city centre to Belfield, and will also pick up passengers at Heuston.

Minister Lawless said: “I welcome this announcement. I listened to the concerns of constituents after receiving a considerable number of representations on this issue. I am pleased to say that the NTA has accommodated these concerns with changes to their existing services.  The new X services that leave from the side of Heuston station, just 30 yards from where the old 145 used to leave from at the front of the station, will bring student commuters and others to UCD and its hinterland with no need to get off the bus. I’d like to thank acting chief executive at the NTA, Hugh Cregan, and his staff for helping to sort out this problem and listening to the concerns of their customers.”

Customers making a journey between Heuston and UCD outside peak times can avail of bus routes 4, C1, C2, C3, C4, 52 or 60 to the O’Connell Bridge area and interchange with the southbound E1 or E2. Red Line Luas from Heuston offers similar connectivity.
