KCC responded that it  has received notification of funding of €500,000 for 2025 from the National Transport Authority for a bus stop enhancement programme. An initial meeting has taken place with the National Transport Authority and details of the programme are awaited by KCC “and in particular the recoupment process for claims, including expenditure from previous bus stop/shelter programmes.”

KCC also said it welcomes the clear line of communication with a nominated member of staff from the NTA and regular progress meetings are scheduled “so that agreement can be reached on a programme of works for 2025 and future years.”

KCC official Celina Barrett told a council meeting that bus stops design are standard and come from the NTA.

Alongside this, KCC holds regular update meetings with the TFI Local Link Kildare South Dublin manager and  staff are working closely with this TFI unit “ to develop a framework within which the provision of bus stop infrastructure can be most effectively delivered across the county.”

Ms Barrett added that proposed Route 888, which serves Athy, Monasterevin and Allenwood, is being used to test a new process and consultation which has improved the levels of coordination and cooperation between TFI Local Link and the council.
