Trees must be maintained across Kildare to prevent storm damage

There's been a call for a tree maintenance programme to be carried out by Kildare County Council to reduce potential strom damage in the future. It came form Maynooth councillor Donna Phelan

KCC official Celina Barrett told a council meeting that KCC continues to manage its own trees and liaises with landowners about three management.

Ms Barrett also pointed out that at national level the government  has requested a number of actions be taken by the ESB which includes increased stock of spare parts for the electricity network; the creation of forestry corridors to protect overhead line corridors and the enhancement of partnerships across Europe.

Ms Barrett said KCC is in the process of producing a tree policy and it will continue to manage trees on its own land and remind other landowners of their responsibilities in accordance the law to ensure that trees, shrubs, hedges and any other vegetation on their land are not a danger to people using or working on a public road.
