The winner of last year's competition
A community group in West Kildare is holding its second annual 25 Card Drive fundraiser for the Pat Gorey Perpetual Cup.
Taking place on Friday, March 21 at Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park, doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The Lullymore Barnaran Drumsru Cappanargid (LBDC) Community Group, located near Rathangan, will also hold a raffle on
the night.
“This event was a great success last year and we are hoping for a great turnout again this year,” said group chairman, Val
Cross.
“We've had great support from the local community over the years and we are hugely thankful to the Lullymore Heritage Park for their help in hosting the various events and meetings.”
Established almost 20 years ago, the community alert group has been one of the most active in the country.
“We are very active on crime prevention and creating awareness. We have a great relationship with the gardai and our what's app group messaging service is a huge help. Any suspicious activity can be reported and residents really keep an eye out for each other,” said Mr C ross .
“We are also very aware of senior citizens, or those living alone within our community. We always check in on them and we provide personal alarms for them.”
With over 120 houses in the four townlands, LBDC Community Group is also unique in that it has it's own trained defibrilator instructor, who can train volunteers.
The defibrilator service is also linked to the national ambulance service. The group also carries out an annual clean up and holds an annual children's art competition.
Funds raised from the Card Drive will go towards the running of these events and programmes. Raffle tickets are for sale in advance and on the door. The card drive kicks off at 7.30pm with tickets costing €10 each.
Refreshments will be provided.
