Two road closures are due to take place in Athy soon.

Commenting on the first upcoming closure, Kildare County Council (KCC) said that it gives notice on behalf of Cairn Homes in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993 and the Roads Regulations, 1994 that it will close the Fortbarrington Road on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

This temporary closure is being enacted in order to facilitate the placing of tar.

KCC explained that the Fortbarrington Road will be closed from the Fortbarrington Road – Distributor Road Junction to the Fortbarrington Road – Avondale Drive for a total of one week.

"Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána," KCC added. "Emergency access and restricted local access will be maintained."
