Concerns have been raised over the behaviour of drivers in one particular Municipal District (MD) of County Kildare.

The comments were made by Social Democrats Cllr Peter Melrose at the latest Clane-Maynooth MD meeting, which was held on Friday, April 4 last.

Cllr Melrose, who appeared by virtual means, specifically made the comments while discussing a motion he submitted at the meeting, in which he requested Kildare County Council (KCC) to "replace the damaged barrier at the end of Carton Avenue on the Dunboyne Road".

This motion was seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Paula Mulroe.

He also told the members: in attendance: "We are only on Item 13 of the agenda and the issue of driver behaviour has come up several times [so far]."

Cllr Melrose also suggested: "Maybe we could engage with An Garda Síochána about this issue?"

Fine Gael Cllr Tim Durkan said that he agreed with this suggestion.

In response to Cllr Melrose's motion, KCC said that the MD office "will arrange for the barrier adjacent to the R157 at the end of Carton Avenue to be replaced".
