A motorcyclist sustained broken bones and was placed in a coma after a road accident, Naas District Court was told.

This prompted criticism from Judge Desmond Zaidan who noted that the defendant, who is living abroad, was charged only with dangerous driving - instead of dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He said one charge carried an imprisonment term of six months while the latter could result in a custody term of 10 years.
