Massive new solar farm planned for Kildare region

A new solar farm is being planned for the Clane/Maynooth municipal district.

Construction Information Services (CIS) reports on April 10 2025 that planning application number 2560326 has been submitted for consideration.

The address of the proposed development is Straffan ED, The Municipal District of Clane, Maynooth W23 PA03, Co. Kildare.

The scheme comprises of the construction of a solar PV development (solar farm) and an 'under the fence' transformer compound on a ca. 180Ha site.

The site is to consist of: i) Solar PV panels laid out in arrays across the site; ii) 39 inverter units iii) one control room structure iv) one transformer unit and associated bund.

There is also to be security fencing around the 'under the fence' transformer compound (2.65m high), electrical and communications cabling; and pole-mounted security cameras.

Also planned for the site is perimeter security fencing (2m high) and security gates, the upgrade of three existing site entrances, and development of two new site entrances;

Finally, three temporary construction compounds, internal access tracks and all associated ancillary development, landscaping and reinstatement works are also included in the plans.
