No funding for Wonderful Barn Restoration Works project in Kildare

Funding from Historic Structures Fund (HSF) refused
Kildare County Council's Strategic Projects and Public Realm team (SPPR) have received notice that the 2025 HSF Funding proposal for the Wonderful Barn Restoration Works has not been successful.
The council was responding to a motion tabled by Social Democrats councillor for Leixlip, Nuala Kileen, which called for an update on the Leixlip Town Renewal Plan.
According to the local authority, works are ongoing on remediation works to the main barn and the
dovecoats, and are due to be complete in the coming weeks.
Additional works are expected to commence that would see the wall adjacent to the main building fully restored to the same standard as the walled garden.
In its report to Cllr Killeen, the council stated that the progression of all projects included in the Town Renewal Masterplan “is dependent on funding being available.”
To complete the works to the Wonderful Barn, approved under Part 8, the council wrote, the cost is estimated at €23.5m, “which would require a URDF fund or equivalent.”
The council concluded: “SPPR strive to complete funding applications as grants opportunities become available.
“The process is challenging given the significant number of projects in Kildare that are waiting on funding.
“Each funding opportunity is a competitive process with Kildare competing with other local authorities.”
