Agri Aware's Healthy Eating Week comes to Kildare primary schools next week

Week-long initiative to bring a focus on healthy eating and growing to Kildare schools

Agri Aware's Healthy Eating Week comes to Kildare primary schools next week

Agri Aware’s Healthy Eating Week returns from Tuesday, 6th May to Friday, 9th May 2025, bringing interactive workshops and food education to schools.

Agri Aware is gearing up for an exciting and educational week as its flagship primary school programme, Incredible Edibles, marks the return of Healthy Eating Week from Tuesday, May 6th to Friday, May 9th 2025, with visits to Kildare schools.

The week-long initiative will bring a focus on healthy eating and growing to schools through a series of in-person visits.

With support from programme partners Dole Ireland, Country Crest, O'Shea Farms/Iverk Produce, and McCormack Family Farms, students can look forward to a week filled with fun activities, food, and learning about where their food comes from.

As part of the Healthy Eating Week roadshow, the Agri Aware team will visit primary schools across Kildare, Dublin, Meath and Carlow, delivering hands-on learning experiences that inspire healthy habits and a love for growing food.

This year’s Healthy Eating Week will kick off on Tuesday in Carlow, where Agri Aware and Dole Ireland will be joined by the Dole Fresh Fruit and Veg Truck to highlight the benefits of a healthy, balanced diet. Students will enjoy a live cooking demonstration and have the chance to sample a freshly made smoothie.

For the rest of the week, Agri Aware, together with programme partners Country Crest, O’Shea Farms/Iverk Produce, and McCormack Family Farms, will visit schools in Kildare, Dublin and Meath to deliver hands-on sowing and growing workshops.

These sessions will complement what students have already been learning through the Incredible Edibles programme, and will encourage them to explore fun and practical ways to include nutritious, locally grown foods such as strawberries, potatoes, and vegetables in their meals.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Students will also meet special guests who incorporate healthy eating into their daily lives.

Maynooth

Among them is Olympian and Irish Rugby Sevens player Amy Larn, who will visit Gaelscoil Ruairí in Maynooth to share how good nutrition helps fuel her performance on the pitch. More details will be revealed as we gear up for an action-packed week in the Incredible Edibles programme.

Speaking ahead of the week, Agri Aware Chairman Shay Galvin said: “Healthy Eating Week is an important milestone in students' Incredible Edibles journey. We are delighted to be joined by programme sponsors Dole Ireland, Country Crest, O'Shea Farms/Iverk Produce, and McCormack Family Farms, and we look forward to what promises to be an exciting and educational week on the school calendar.

“These workshops are delivered with the support of our programme partners, and the continued success of the Incredible Edibles initiative would not be possible without the backing of all our valued sponsors, Bord Bia, Keelings, the Department of Health, the Department of Education, O’Shea Farms/Iverk Produce, the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), and Quickcrop.

“The programme gives students a hands-on understanding of where their food comes from, and encourages them to build healthy habits by including more fruit and vegetables in their diets."
