Stole clothing from TK Maxx store in Kildare

A man who stole clothing from the TK Maxx store in Newbridge was prosecuted at Naas District Court.

Renat Rafael, 32, whose address was given as 32 Harpurs Crescent, Portlaoise, was prosecuted for stealing items worth  some €200, on August 25, 2024.

The court heard that the defendant was in a desperate condition at the time because of an addiction to heroin and he effectively used the clothing to buy drugs.

The defendant appeared via videolink and the court heard that the had been in custody adn was on a methadone programme and is off drugs.

The court was also told that the defendant has eight previous convictions, including one for theft.

Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed a custody term of five months.
