Kildare County Council announces return of Picnic in the Park

Get ready for a day of fun and excitement as Kildare County Council’s Climate Action Office, in collaboration with Maynooth Community Council proudly presents the return of ‘Picnic in the Park’

Take a trip to Harbour Field, Maynooth on Sunday, 15th June from 2pm to 5pm for a free, unforgettable family-friendly event, centered around the theme of ‘climate change and sustainability’.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better, featuring a variety of performers, workshops and information stalls, along with delicious food vendors.

Younger attendees will enjoy activities such as seed planting, eco-printing, face painting, and can build their own insect hotel. Adults can enjoy comedy, poetry, song, and even get a caricature drawn if they are feeling brave!

Explore our information stalls, offering advice on energy usage, composting, active travel, biodiversity and new projects/initiatives in the area.

Don’t miss the games hosted by Kildare Sports Partnership with exciting prizes, and stalls from community groups and local crafts people.

We are excited to welcome back the ‘Circus of Climate Horrors’, an interactive experience built and run by researchers at the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units (ICARUS) Institute at Maynooth University.

This fun-filled attraction aims to educate the audience in an engaging way.

DZ Climate Champion Awards

The highlight of the event will be Kildare County Council’s inaugural DZ Climate Champion Awards, celebrating the climate and biodiversity actions achieved by local communities, businesses, farmers, and schools in Maynooth.

In line with sustainable festivals guidelines, there will be a water refill station on site, so bring your reusable bottles.

We’ll also have an AccessoLoo on site for those with access needs and a dog spending area for guide/assistance dogs.

We encourage everyone to leave the car at home if possible and use public transport or walk/cycle.

Picnic in the Park’, which is partially funded through the Local Property Tax and other sources, is a free event and promises to be a fun filled day for all ages.
