A concrete company intends to extend a sand and gravel pit which is located in County Kildare.
Kilsaran Concrete Unlimited Company (otherwise known simply as Kilsaran) is seeking authorisation from Kildare County Council (KCC) to make the extension to the site in Corbally, Kilcullen, according to a planning permission application.
The description of the application notes that Kilsaran wants the extension to take place "at the north-west of the existing sand and gravel pit, with an extraction footprint of circa 2.25 hectares to facilitate the extraction and processing of sand and gravel".
It further says: "The development will also incorporate all ancillary site development including stockpiling, landscaping and boundary treatment works and restoration of the extraction area."
"The development is proposed to run concurrently with the permitted development established under KCC Reg. Ref. 17/1224; An Bord Pleanála Ref. ABP-302199-18".
The KCC reference dates back to 2017.
The date received is listed as June 3 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as July 7, 2025 and July 28, 2025 respectively.
Kilsaran was officially established back in 1964 in County Louth, according to its website, and the company is headquartered in Piercetown, Dunboyne, County Meath.
In 2021, Kilsaran made headlines after it was reported that An Bord Pleanála gave Kilsaran the green light to construct a quarry in Ballyshannon, despite the initial 200-plus objections to the proposal.
