A man has appeared in court in connection with a fatal accident which claimed the life of a woman.

Before Naas District Court was Michael Goggins, 54, whose address was given as 19 Oaklawns, Longwood, County Meath, on an allegation of dangerous driving on January 2.

Sgt Mary Meade told the court that the accident took place on the R149 at Cappagh, Kilcock, when a van collided with a Nissan Almera car.

Sgt Meade said it will be alleged that the defendant was driving on the wrong side of the road.

The court was also told that the deceased, Junette Stronge, died at the scene and Judge Desmond Zaidan expressed his sympathy to the family of the deceased woman.

Judge Zaidan adjourned the matter to July 15 for the preparation of a book of evidence.

The defendant was remanded on continuing bail and a request was made for free legal aid by his legal representative.
