Man claims he had insurance following Laois crash

Portlaoise District Court

A man with a Kildare address appeared in court accused of having no insurance or Licence in Laois.

Keith Swayne (38) of Derryvarrogue, Donadea, Naas, Co Kildare is accused of failing to produce insurance or a drivers licence at Kilnacourt roundabout in Portarlington on June 10, 2023.

Solicitor Philip Meagher said the prosecution arose from a traffic accident.

“I have a letter from the RSA confirming that Mr Swayne had a driving licence at the time,” he said.

Mr Meagher said he had contacted Axa but was having difficulty confirming the insurance. He said his client assured him that he did have insurance on the day. He said the defendant hadn’t been at fault and “he was injured in the accident”.

Judge Andrew Cody adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on September 11.
