A total of 547 Supplementary Welfare Allowances have been granted to people living County Kildare so far this year.
A Supplementary Welfare Allowance is a means-tested weekly payment provided by the Department of Social Protection. It is given to people waiting on a decision on a social welfare payment, and who do not have sufficient income to meet their basic needs.
According to information given to Labour TD Mark Wall in a parliamentary question reply, 547 Supplementary Welfare Allowances were granted for people in Kildare in the first quarter of 2025.
The figures for Q1 (which were also seen by the Leinster Leader) mark a drop on the previous year, where there were 701 claims awarded in the county.
The most claims awarded were in Dublin, where 5,510 payments were granted.

In total, 17,797 payments were granted across Ireland.
This marks a reduction compared to 2024, when a total of 20,251 Supplementary Welfare Allowance payments were granted.
Deputy Wall previously made headlines last week when he told the Dáil that there was an "urgent" need to see gardaí "back on the beat" in Kildare.
