PopUpArt Newbridge, a collective of Kildare-connected artists, is currently hosting its latest exhibition in the Riverbank Arts Centre.

Led by Eilis Kavanagh, the group unveiled its 'Tapestry of Kildare' earlier today (July 11) at 6pm in the McKenna Gallery, which is located in the downstairs section of the Riverbank Arts Centre.

It was officially launched by the Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, Fine Gael councillor Peggy O'Dwyer, who told the Leinster Leader that she has been a fan of PopUpArt Newbridge since it was established in 2018.

Consisting of works by 10 different artists, the exhibition features works of art (ranging from oil on canvas paintings to mixed media) which highlight well-known sites throughout the county. Each piece of artwork on display is available for purchase.

Attendees were greeted by a wine reception, and upon stepping foot into the McKenna Gallery, were free to examine the various works art at their leisure.

Speaking about the inspiration behind 'Tapestry of Kildare', Eilis told the Leader: "Kildare is such an interesting county, it is so full of history", a sentiment which was echoed by Mayor O'Dwyer.

Eilis also said: "We really wanted to showcase places that resonate [with the people of Kildare]."

In addition, according to Eilis, this exhibition marks the third time the group has displayed artwork in the Riverbank, and the first one to feature their art in the McKenna Gallery.

Mary McCarthy, one of the artists who participated in the exhibition and has been a member of PopUpArt Newbridge since its inception, praised Eilis for giving people the opportunity to showcase their works.

She also said that by being a member of PopUpArt Newbridge has led to the creation of powerful friendships and bonds — "You're never in isolation with your art," Mary added.

Both Eilis and Caroline Williams, the venue director of the Riverbank, delivered brief speeches during the opening of the exhibition.

Caroline noted in her speech that PopUpArt Newbridge has "facilitated in excess of 300 artists over the years", while Eilis outlined a brief history of the group and thanked a number of people and organisations for supporting PopUpArt Newbridge over the years (and for 'Tapestry in Kildare').

In particular, she thanked her fellow artists and her "team": Anna Kinsella, Martina Harrigan and Mary McCaughey.

Caroline also generously gifted Eilis with a bouquet of flowers following the end of her speech.

The artists who submitted works at the event are listed as follows: Eilis Kavanagh, Mary McCarthy, Amy O'Connor, Rebecca Jordan, Anna O'Sullivan, Sean Conlon, Martina Harrigan, Frances O'Loughlin, Kris Glod and Isabelle Smith.
