Maynooth 3-25

Moorefield 0-14

Talisman David Qualter led the way for Maynooth as they completed an impressive win over Moorefield in Group B.
It was a lacklustre start, but Moorefield struck first through Reece Gavin after 40 seconds.

However, Maynooth would register the next six, which were spread out over an ambling 17 minutes. In that spell, David Qualter and Ciaran Flanagan were the men leading the way.

The Moores ended their scoreless through Reece Gavin, who hit two frees between the posts just a minute or so apart to leave his team three back at 0-6 to 0-3 after just under 20 minutes.

After a point from Cormac Nolan in response, Maynooth grabbed their first goal. Goalkeeper Sean Bean picked out Ciaran Flanagan at the other end of the field, who turned sharply to find Kevin Dunne. The centre-forward drove down the side of The Moores’ backline before smacking the ball into the net.

Moorefield responded superbly to the set back with two quick-fire points and then drew a penalty when the Maynooth ‘keeper lay on the ball after spilling a shot that dropped short. It was a chance to go back within two points of their opponents but

Reece Gavin’s effort was straight at the unmoved Sean Bean in the Maynooth who atoned for his error with a simple save.
The leading side edged the remainder of the half and took a six-point, 1-10 to 0-7 lead in the first half.

The Moores got the first score and gave a decent account of themselves after the break but were overpowered late on by the eventual winners. As bodies began to tire, frees became more frequent and the county’s set-piece specialist David Qualter was on hand to dispatch.

Qualter had four second half points before getting the first of his two goals 10 minutes from the end. He was fed through by Conor Grady and the Maynooth sharpshooter bounced the effort that followed into the corner to make this game 2-18 to 0-13.
Qualter got his second goal two minutes later with a superb finish into the bottom corner and added three more points to his tally as his side finished as 3-25 to 0-14 winners.
