Kildare politicians can decide when the Irish flag flies at council offices

One councillor says the flag should not be flown at night

The Irish Tricolour flag flying outside Aras Chill Dara in Naas should be taken down at night.

That’s according to independent councillor Seamie Moore who said the flag should be raised and lowered daily “to acknowledge with due respect, the honour, freedom and pride of our nation.”

“We need to show respect and to promote Irish freedom and freedom for all nations. Yet we’re not bothered doing this every day,” he told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting.

Kildare County Council official Eoghan Ryan said the flag is lit up at night and it is flown in accordance with protocols agreed by Kildare County Council.

The meeting was also told that flag policy could be reviewed by the councillors.
