Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon has said that €744,222 will be allocated between five projects in Kildare to deliver essential water and wastewater infrastructure.

Minister Heydon said this allocation is part of national funding of €73.9m which has been allocated to 291 water projects across the county, under the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme 2024–2026.

“Today’s announcement is great news for communities in Kildare. It’s so important that we protect our water sources and ensure the highest standards in water treatment. We must ensure that communities across Kildare have the benefit of high-quality infrastructure and water services”, the Minister said.

The successful Kildare projects under this round of funding are Lipstown-Narraghmore Group Water Scheme, Usk Gormanstown Group Water Scheme, Ballindoolin Group Water Scheme, Sherlockstown Common Group Water Scheme and Bishopscourt Group Water Scheme.

“The Rural Water Programme delivers improvements to private domestic water and wastewater services in areas of rural Ireland where there are no public water services", Minister Heydon added.

“This funding and the completion of these projects will allow Group Water Schemes to continue to improve the quality, quantity and reliability of the water services across Kildare.

“The allocation of €73.9m for 291 projects across the country will directly benefit 63,000 rural households and will address a wide range of needs such as water quality and infrastructure upgrades.

Concluding, Minister Heydon said: “Fine Gael is working hard to improve our infrastructure to ensure more homes can be built. This funding to improve our water and waste water facilities will go a long way to supporting communities in Kildare.”
