The continuance of a respite centre has been proposed for one County Kildare region.

According to a planning permission application currently with Kildare County Council (KCC), Extern Ireland Limited is seeking to construct the centre at Savannagh, Betaghstown in Clane.

Specifically, the applicant is seeking permission for "the continuance of the temporary change of use for further period of five years of the dwelling, ancillary buildings and attendant grounds".

The description of the application also notes: "The temporary change of use is for the dwelling, ancillary buildings and attendant grounds from residential use to institutional use for the purposes of providing respite, educational, social, recreational and sessional care on a daily and overnight basis to young persons and their families with social based difficulties (originating from a range of scenarios which may include intellectual, mental or learning difficulty)."

It further notes that the project was granted a temporary permission from KCC "under planning register reference nos. 10/640, 15/956 and 20/652/".

The date received is listed as July 22 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as August 25, 2025 and September 15, 2025 respectively.
