Kildare soccer legend Michael (Mick) Kearin has passed away aged 82. Kearin was the first Kildare man to be capped by Ireland and was the only one until Everton goalkeeper Mark Travers got his debut in 2019.

Speaking with the Leinster Leader in 2022, Kearin shared brilliant stories from a fascinating sporting career, which included three FAI Cup wins with Rovers and taking part in their infamous game with Bayern Munich in the 1966–67 Uefa Cup Winners Cup. It was a Munich team that contained the likes of World Cup-winning captain Franz Beckenbauer, Sepp Maier and legendary German goalscorer Gerd Müller.

Michael will be sadly missed by his loving sons Darren, Michael (Jnr) and Jody, daughters in law Ched, Ann-Marie and Aisling, grandchildren Megan, Jade, MJ, Alannah, Barra and Fionn, sister in law Betty, niece Danielle, nephew Paul, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at McWeys Funeral Home, Abbeyview, Kildare Town from 5pm on Tuesday ( July 29) concluding with rosary at 7pm. Removal by Glennons Funeral Directors on Wednesday morning to arrive at St. Brigids Parish Church, Kildare Town for requiem mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. Conleths cemetery, Kildare Town.

Family flowers only please. Donations if desired to "The Alzheimer's Society of Ireland" donations can be made through the link HERE.
