The late Reggie Lalor
Tributes have paid to former Fine Gael councillor for the Athy area, Reggie Lalor who passed away on July 22.
Mr Lalor, of Whitecastle Lawns, Athy, Co Kildare passed away peacefully on July 22, surrounded by his family, in the care of the staff of St. Bridget’s Hospice, The Curragh.
Mr Lalor is predeceased by his sons Fintan and Baby Neil, parents Michael and May his brother Aidan and his sister Anne.
He is sadly missed by his loving wife Liz, sons Derek and Aiden, grandchildren Niall, Clodagh, Caoimhe and Sadbh, daughters-in-law Orlaith and Liz, sisters Gertie, Honor, and Mary, extended family and friends.
Reggie's remains reposed at Thompson’s Funeral Home on Sunday evening and the Funeral Mass took place at St. Michael’s Parish Church, Athy on Monday morning with burial afterwards in St. Michael’s (New) Cemetery, Athy.
Mr Lalor operated a pub and grocery business on Leinster Street and also worked for the Eagle Star/Zurich Life insurance company.
Paying tribute, Minister for Agriculture and Kildare South TD Martin Heydon said: "Reggie Lalor was a gentleman, a mentor and a friend. He cared passionately about Athy, as a county and town councillor, as a businessman in the town with his pub and then working in insurance, he served Athy with distinction.
"Working with the parish, the Irish Wheelchair Association, Irish Cancer Society, Athy Lions Club and Athy Golf Club, his retirement was as busy as his working life.
"In Fine Gael he supported and advised many of us because he believed passionately in public service.
"His smile and quick wit will be greatly missed by all of us who had the pleasure to know him, no more so than for Liz, Derek and Aiden."Rest easy Reg, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
Kildare South Fine Gael constituency Executive said: "Reggie represented the people of Athy with distinction as a Fine Gael county Councillor and as a Member of Athy District Council. One of life’s thorough gentlemen."
