The Office of Public Works (OPW) yesterday (August 7 last) announced that it will host family fun day event in a popular North Kildare spot.

It follows after the OPW said last month that it would reopen the premises to visitors.

Speaking about the event, the OPW said: "While there is no general visitor parking for Castletown House, we welcome families to walk, cycle or take public transport.

"Bring a picnic and make it a fun day out."

The OPW continued: "Castletown Estate will be bustling with exciting activities on the day.

"Themed entertainers will keep the children occupied, from wonderful face and arm painting to mystical magic shows to party games and bubble discos."

"For book lovers, come and meet Mrs Books who is absolutely bonkers about books; she loves books of all kinds, big books, small books, scary books, funny books, nature books, art books, she just loves books.

"Don't miss this exciting opportunity to hear her read, ask questions, and celebrate the joy of books."

The OPW also said that tour guides will be present, and for nature lovers, biodiversity tours of Castletown Estate will also be held on the day.

Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, welcomed the news, and added that the event "promises to be full of laughter and excitement".

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The OPW also specified: "There is no general visitor parking for Castletown House, at this time. Therefore, we encourage all our visitors to use public transport or active travel, such as walking or cycling, to visit Castletown House and Estate.

"Remember to respect our neighbours and don’t park in local housing estates.

"There are limited accessible parking spaces available in front of the House, which can be accessed via Lime Avenue.

The OPW concluded: "Further details on how to travel to Castletown is available on Travel to Castletown."

The Castletown Parklands is open from during daylight hours for visitors.

In addition, according to the OPW, dogs are welcome, they must be kept on a lead. They must also be kept away from the lake area.
