Castledermot got past Suncroft to book a winner's group spot in their National Electrical Wholesalers Kildare IFC Preliminary Round clash

Efficiency was the name of the game for the eventual winners who had 1-11 on the board before they registered their first wide.

However, it was Suncroft that opened the scoring through Tom Martin who fisted over from close-range.

Castledermot responded with six points without reply with each member of the full-forward line getting on the scoresheet alongside centre-back Emmet O’Keefe and midfielder Donnchadh Kinch.

Not long after returning from down under, Eoghan Lawless would be a huge asset to the Croft and hit a two-pointer to reduce the gap to three with 10 minutes on the clock.

After a point at each end, Castledermot hit the net for the first time through Dan Grey. The flying full-forward hit 2-3 on the day and was the standout player on the field alongside Lawless.

Castledermot maintained the gap earned by that goal right up until the break and took a 1-11 to 0-8 lead in at half-time.

The eventual winners quietened any Suncroft hopes of a reaction after half-time with Dan Grey’s second goal. The ball was offloaded to the rapid full-forward who found the net in confident style low into the corner.

Suncroft’s best spell in the game came between the 45th and 55th minute as they scored 1-5 with just a point headed in the other direction.

The gap before that spell was up 11 points and, despite the surge, Suncroft remained too far adrift. Castledermot wrestled back control of things and finished as 2-19 to 1-15 winners to progress to a winner’s group for the draw later today.
