Big Kildare Interview: Newbridge man to run 15K in aid of Cara Projects. Pictured is Kayode Adebesin beside his young son, Liam
Fitness for a fair cause — a County Kildare man plans to run 15K as part of a charitable venture.
Kayode 'King Kai' Adebesin, who hails from Newbridge, will be taking on the challenge in aid of Cara Projects, an Irish organisation which focuses on improving the welfare of young girls in Kenya.
The 29-year-old also told the Leinster Leader that this isn't his first foray in helping out Cara Projects — he previously embarked on a barefoot walk in aid of the charity back when he was a student at the Patrician Secondary School.
Kayode revealed that he was put back in touch with the creator of Cara Projects, Paddy Kennedy, and this led him to consider helping out the organisation once more.
"I have always loved helping others, and when I did the barefoot walk, it felt great to know that our efforts were helping others," he explained. "I enjoyed Paddy’s personality and I found out I could be put back in contact with him, so it made sense [to do the upcoming 15K]."

Ever the fan of athletics, dancing and sports, the 15K is just the natural progression for Kayode's fitness life.
He also said that he has been training a few days a week in preparation for the run, with an emphasis on improving his stamina to make sure that he reaches his goal.
When asked about his thoughts on the upcoming event, Kayode responded: "I'm nervous and excited, but I know the hard work will pay off. I’m excited that that hard work will help people in need, and that’s what I’m most excited about."
'A KING ROLLS WITH IT'
As for the origin behind his nickname, 'King Kai', Kayode explained: "Kai came from work as nickname. We have an awards night in work and I won [the title of] 'King', then people started calling me 'King Kai' and outside of work.
He confidently added: "Some friends call me 'King' and I roll with it, because that what the king does!"
Kayode also released the following message of gratitude: "Thank you to Cara Projects for this amazing opportunity. Without them, this would not be possible.
"Thanks to everyone who helped me set up the project and helped my fundraiser; thank you to Martina, who went above and beyond; thank you to the Howe family, for helping me and giving me support; thank you to Paddy, for letting me link up with him, because without him, there would be no 15k.
"Also, thank you to all who have supported already. We can do this guys!"
He also revealed that one local business that has donated to his 15K is Spresso, a coffee company based in Newbridge.

Kayode can also be contacted through his social media platforms. In addition, he also has sponsorship cards.
'King Kai's Run' will take place on The Curragh on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
It will commence at 10am.
