Kildare Gardaí help avoid potential 'disaster' on the N7 (FILE PHOTO)
Kildare gardaí said they helped avert a potential 'disaster' after stopping a defective truck on the N7.
Officers from Naas Roads Policing Unit said an articulated truck had loose wheel nuts and defective tyres.
A spokesperson said: "During a joint night-time operation on the N7 with RSA Enforcement Officers, multiple offences were detected — including one laden articulated truck with loose wheel nuts on its drive axle and defective tyres.
"The vehicle was impounded after further checks revealed it was not properly maintained.
"If this HGV had not been stopped, the wheel could have come off on the busy N7, posing a serious risk to other road users."
Court proceedings will follow for the owner of the vehicle.
Gardaí reminded drivers to carry out thorough walk-around checks before starting their journey each day.
The spokesperson added: "Ensure your vehicles are properly maintained and safe for the road.
