Works have been completed on the renovation of a former cotton mills warehouse at Military Road Industrial Park, Newbridge Road, Naas, Co. Kildare.

The overall project, valued at over €350,000, involved both development works and the installation of over 200 solar panels by Co Antrim firm Solmatix Renewables.

The warehouse is located between the old Devoy Barracks and the MERITS Building.

Originally approved by Kildare County Council in September 2022 under a Part 8 planning process, the project focused on transforming an original cotton mills industrial building into a modern storage facility for council use.

The redeveloped building includes a large 1,917 sq.m. storage area, smaller storage units and staff amenities.

Naas-based firm Barrowhouse Civil Engineering was appointed in April 2023 to carry out the main construction works.

The project also included changes to the building’s elevations to accommodate the new internal layout, as well as  service connections to the existing council car park.

A significant feature of the development is the installation of 208 square metres of solar photovoltaic panels by Solmatix Renewables to improve the building’s energy efficiency.

The works, which concluded this month, represent a substantial investment by Kildare County Council in upgrading local infrastructure while also embracing renewable energy technology.
