A reminder has been released by Kildare County Council in relation to the 2025 Hedge Cutting Season.

The season, which refers to when hedgerows are dormant, has been in effect since September 1 last.

It will run until February 28, 2026.

Reminding the public of the current season, Kildare County Council said that would like to remind landowners and occupiers of properties which adjoin public roads "of their obligations under the Roads Act, 1993".

The council continued: "It is essential to ensure that trees, shrubs, hedges or any other vegetation on their land, do not pose a danger to people using or working on a public road.

"The responsibility for maintaining roadside trees, hedges and other vegetation lies with the landowner.

"Landowners should therefore ensure that trees, hedges or other vegetation are maintained in such condition that they are not a hazard to road users or interfere with the maintenance of the road.

"Landowners should take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of road users when this work is being carried out."

Kildare County Council also pointed out: "Section 40 of the Wildlife Act 1976, as amended by the Wildlife (Amendment) Act 2000 and the Heritage Act 2018, prohibits the cutting of hedges and the clearing of vegetation during the bird nesting season from March 1 to August 31."
