Kildare landowners asked about providing space for amenities in the Naas area

Landowners have been approached by Kildare County Council about providing ground  for amenity and open space use in Naas.

Kildare County Council official Eoghan Ryan said he had spoken to at least two people in the Jigginstown area. The discussions were described as “preliminary.”

Cllr Evie Sammon asked about progress in providing space for recreation since the completion of the Naas Local Area Plan.

At a Naas Municipal District meeting, she asked if progress has been made concerning either the purchase of land or working with landowners to deliver amenities.

She said sports clubs are "bursting at the seams” and other groups offering recreation are over subscribed.

She was critical of the rate of progress - pointing out that 13 areas of land have been zoned for this purpose “and we've only spoken to two landowners in one area.”
