Ballymore GAA Club on the Kildare / Wicklow border has lodged plans for a major €573,000 upgrade to its facilities at Bishopsland, Ballymore Eustace, aimed at improving sustainability and energy efficiency.

The proposed works include the installation of low-energy floodlights around the main playing pitch, featuring six 20-metre-high lamp standards to improve evening and winter training conditions.

In a further step toward renewable energy, the project will see the construction of three proprietary solar power-generating carports, each measuring 50.4 square metres, to the north of the existing tennis courts.

A 31-square-metre solar panel array will also be installed on the south-facing roof of the clubhouse to reduce the club’s carbon footprint.

Additional features of the project include ten new bicycle parking stands to encourage more sustainable travel among members and visitors.

The alterations cover a total floor area of 437.6m² on a site measuring 2.3 hectares and fall under the sport and leisure category. The plans are currently at the application stage, with a submission date of 19 August 2025.

The applicant for the project is Ballymore GAA – Kildare, represented by Niall Carroll, with design by Kennedy Architecture (Des Kennedy).

Electrical consultancy is being provided by Seamus Byrne Electrical Ltd, with water infrastructure consultation by Uisce Éireann (Irish Water).

This privately funded project marks a significant investment in local sports infrastructure, with a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency for the benefit of the Ballymore Eustace community.
