Works are to be carried out by Kildare County Council to improve road safety at Dag Weld's Cross, Prosperous, Co Kildare following a spate of road traffic accidents at the location.
A motion by Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD) asked “That the council outlines the immediate road safety measures that can be put in place to improve road safety at Dag Weld's Cross following recent incidents.”
Cllr Mulroe tabled her motion at this month's sitting of Clane Maynooth Municipal District, held on Friday, October 3 2025.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Mulroe welcomed the council's report, and the fact that it was confirmed that work is to be carried out to improve sightlines at Dag Weld's Cross.
She said the area had become increasingly more dangerous, with two “quite serious” collisions occurring in the month of August alone.
She said she was aware that the Department had stated it was looking for an application for funding to complete works at Dag Welds Cross, and that she hoped that this would be forthcoming “in the not too distant future as well.”

Cllr Padraig McEvoy (IND) said he wished to acknowledge the work of the council at Dag Weld's Cross, and also the work of neighbours, and said it should be noted that positive outcomes follow when residents work closely with public representatives.
Also supporting the motion, Cathaoirleach Cllr Brendan Wyse (FG) said there was a “spate” of incidents at Dag Weld's Cross recently, of which he was personally aware.
He said these incidents “were not surprising”, and attributed them as being largely down to “driver behaviour.”
As a motorcyclist himself, he said, he was aware of one of the incidents in particular, which involved a collision with a motorcyclist.
The issue of road safety at Dag Weld's Cross had been known about “for years”, he said, and even before he was a councillor, other councillors had been working on the issue.
He said he welcomed the council's report, except for the word “shortly”, which he said was “too vague for me.”
A report issued by Kildare County Council stated: “A Section 38 process will commence shortly to allow for the tightening of the southern junction and the removal of a number of utility poles and overhead lines to improve sightlines.”
A council official said the local authority was working closely on the issues at Dag Weld's Cross, and clarified that the term “shortly” in effect meant “next month”, which the members appeared content with.
