Before the court was Lukas Jurligas, 26, whose address was given as Foxtown, Summerhill, County Meath, for alleged offences on June 11 at Oldcarton, Maynooth.

Sgt Meade said that the defendant was driving and he seemed nervous when stopped.

The court was told that the defendant was just 14 when he lost his father in a work accident.

Solicitor Joe Coonan said ketamine was a big problem for the defendant. He added the defendant is no longer taking drugs.

Judge Desmond Zaidan advised the defendant to get bereavement counselling rather than taking drugs to cope with the loss of his father.

In a letter to the court the defendant also said he took ketamine when he broke up with his girlfriend and he had been admitted to hospital.

The defendant who had no previous convictions handed in €1,000 to the court as a charitable donation.
