Construction works planned for a County Kildare housing development are due to begin soon, Kildare County Council (KCC) has said.

KCC made the announcement in response to a question which was submitted by a local councillor at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which was held on Monday, October 20 last.

At this meeting, Labour Party Cllr Aoife Breslin asked KCC for an "up-to-date position is on the commencement of the
construction of 73 houses at Ardrew, Athy."

Replying to her query, KCC told her that it is "currently engaging with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH), the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA), and the other Local Authorities involved in the delivery
bundle to finalise funding and delivery arrangements".

KCC added: "A revised programme is expected, covering design development, procurement, and construction in place in the coming weeks."

In response, Cllr Breslin told KCC that she accepted the report.

However, she also urged KCC to "keep the matter on the agenda, especially considering the housing crisis in Ireland".
