Naas Roads Policing Unit conducted speed checks on the R402 at Ardkill, Co Kildare at the start of the October Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign.
Officers detected several motorists driving at excessive speed, including speeds of 118 km/h and 117 km/h in an 80 km/h zone — far too fast for the conditions.
Each driver received a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) (€160 fine and three penalty points).
A message from An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Please slow down this Bank Holiday weekend and drive safely. Let’s keep our roads safe for everyone.”

Meanwhile, as part of its ongoing #BankHolidayRoadSafety campaign, #NaasRPU stopped a vehicle in Newbridge where the driver was caught smoking cannabis.
The motorist — an unaccompanied learner permit holder was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
Court proceedings will follow.
