A male wielding a "machete-like instrument" forced his way into a County Kildare home during the course of a burglary, according to one garda.

Details of the frightening incident were read out by Garda Sean O'Mahony when he appeared on a KFM radio programme which aired yesterday morning (October 29 last).

He explained that the incident occurred on the evening of Friday, October 24 last at a property located in the Loughlion Green area of Kildare town.

Gda O'Mahony said that the homeowner answered a knock at his door and was met by a male who was dressed in balaclava and dark clothing.

He added that the male, who was in possession of a "machete-type instrument", proceeded to "push through" the homeowner and "chased him upstairs".

Gda O'Mahony then said that the homeowner managed to escape from the intruder, who eventually fled from the home.

He concluded by calling on anyone with information about the incident, or who may have dashcam footage showing the suspect fleeing from the scene, to contact Kildare town Garda Station on 045 527 730.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this crime, a garda spokesperson replied: "Gardaí attended the scene of an alleged aggravated burglary in Loughlion Green, Kildare town on Friday, October 24 last shortly after 11.30pm.

"No injuries were reported and nothing was taken."

The spokesperson also said that investigations are ongoing.
