Kildare County Council can't ban Israeli goods

Council asked to boycott and sanction products

A ban on goods coming from Israeli occupied territories in Palestine cannot be imposed by Kildare County Council.

Cllr Claire O'Rourke asked KCC “insofar as is practicable” to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign in relation to goods and services originating from Israeli occupied territories in Palestine.

And she also KCC to refrain from purchasing goods or services produced, provided or facilitated by Israeli state-owned enterprises or companies that support the policies of the Israeli state, until Israel complies with international law and  human rights standards.

KCC said it's obliged to follow all EU procurement directives and national procurement advice so the proposal “would be very challenging and potentially non-enforceable in the absence of an overall national approach.
