Following a number of public complaints about speeding, Naas Roads Policing Unit recently conducted a speed checkpoint at Castledermot, Co Kildare in a 60 km/h zone.
During the operation, five motorists were detected travelling well above the posted speed limit.
Each driver was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) — a €160 fine and three penalty points on their licence.

A message from An Garda Síochana Kildare stated: “Speed limits are in place for a reason — to protect all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and local residents.
“Excessive speed not only increases the risk of a collision but also the severity of injuries in the event of one.
“Remember: every kilometre per hour over the limit increases the danger. Slow down. Arrive alive. Let’s make our roads safer — for everyone.”
