A question has been raised over zoned land in North Kildare.
Social Democrats councillor Peter Melrose asked Kildare County Council (KCC) about the land at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, November 7 last.
At this meeting, Cllr Melrose asked KCC: "Can the council confirm what proactive steps it is taking to promote the land zoned
'Q1 – Enterprise and Employment' on R148, Maynooth as a viable location for businesses?"
Responding to his query, KCC told Cllr Melrose via the report it presented at the meeting: "Following our review of the lands referenced in the question, we can inform the elected members that the said zoned lands are in private ownership and are under three different portfolios.

"Given the private ownership, as a local authority, we are not in a position to actively promote this area for business locations."
KCC also said: "From initial research of the lands they do not currently appear to be on the market; however, if the owner(s) were to approach the council to discuss the land, we would be delighted to assist in any way to attract business to the area."
Following this response, Cllr Melrose asked KCC: "Is the land subject to any sort of levies if it is not developed or put up for sale?"
In response, a representative of KCC who was present at the meeting said that they would revert back to him on this query.
