Despite recording a comfortable win over Cloughbawn of Wexford to advance to the semi-final of the AIB Leinster Junior Club Football Championship, at Manguard Park, Hawkfield, on Saturday afternoon, Grangenolvin manager, David Conway, said he feels there are certain aspects of his side's display that he would not be happy with.

“The goal just before half-time gave us that bit of a cushion, we had got ourselves in to a better position after some 20 minutes but I felt the game toed and froed a bit too much and as a result they got a few frees that brought them back into it, and then goal just before half time gave us a bit of buffer.”

However, a couple of fine saves by Grange' keeper Conor McMahon kept Cloughbawn at bay but manager Conway said that while the keeper made a couple of great saves, that is what he is there for but “there are fourteen lads before him and it is not good enough to be giving up those chances and we are not happy with that and we will have to review that, if you're giving up goal chances like that you are going to get punished, and in winter conditions if you are conceding goals it is very hard to claw it back.”

The manager while acknowledging it is now winter conditions added “and that is why goals can have an even bigger effect on games because it is not free-flowing, it is heavier on the ground but the lads are training away on it, the same for everybody but it takes a bit more out of the legs you see more lads cramping.”

The Kildare champions now meet overseas side Barcelona who defeated Ballinagore of Westmeath and David Conway said that Westmeath teams are always very strong in this competition so that is proof how good Barcelona actually are.

“One of my best mates is with Amsterdam and they lost after extra time to Barcelona in the European final, I watched Amsterdam playing in two of the last three years in the Leinster, they only lost to Wicklow champions after extra time and Dublin champions by a point so a fair quality side, but my mate will give me more of insight of them.”
