While on patrol in Monasterevin, Co Kildare recently, Naas RPU stopped a van after checks showed the vehicle’s tax was 1,325 days out of date.

As it was being loaded onto a tow truck, officers spotted a second smaller van passing by.

Further checks revealed:

  • The Tax had expired: 12/24

  • The Certificate of Roadworthiness (NCT) had expired: 03/25

  • The driver was also found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. At Newbridge Garda Station, further tests showed the driver was 2.5 times over the legal limit.

The driver has been charged with drunk driving and will appear in court.

Both vehicles were impounded and proceedings are underway.
