Additional traffic calming measures could be on the way to a County Kildare road which is located beside a national school.
The idea was discussed at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, November 19 last.
At this meeting, Fianna Fáil councilllor Rob Power, who appeared at the meeting by virtual means, motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to consider implementing traffic calming measures on the Green Road near Newbridge Educate Together National School, "in light of several traffic incidents of late".
His motion was taken alongside a question which was submitted by the Mayor of the MD, Fianna Fáil Cllr Noel Heavey, who asked KCC to "advise how road safety on the Green Road between [the] Schools Campus and Lumville Junction can be improved, in light of reported incidents".
In response to both Cllr Power's motion and Mayor Heavey's query, KCC said that the MD Office had already carried out "significant works" in the region with the aim of improving safety for pedestrians and road users.

However, KCC added that the MD Office "will review the area to assess if any additional measures could be implemented".
Cllr Power in turn replied that he welcomed KCC's response.
He also said: "I would appreciate if someone at KCC could talk to the residents there; it [the issue] all comes down to the speeding of cars."
Other councillors who expressed support for Cllr Power's motion and Mayor Heavey's query at the meeting were Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer and Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender (the latter of whom attended the meeting by virtual means).
Cllr Pender also told KCC: "We need to be very cognisant of having traffic calming measures and making sure that they are installed [prior to the construction of road in the area]."
"If you improve a road, you also make it easier to speed on, unfortunately," he added.
