A "very dangerous" junction located within the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) has been criticised by the MD's Mayor.

The Mayor of the MD, Fianna Fáil Cllr Noel Heavey, told Kildare County Council (KCC) about his concerns at the latest MD meeting, which took place on Wednesday, November 19 last.

Specifically, he motioned for KCC to, "as a matter of urgency", replace any walls and trees that impede visibility at the junction of Bawn Lane and Barrettstown Road in Newbridge, as agreed with the landowner.

His motion found support in Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer.

Mayor Heavey also told KCC that he once experienced a road traffic accident at the junction in the past.

"There was minor damage to the car; thankfully, no one was hurt," he added.

In response to Mayor Heavey's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "While an assessment of the junction can be carried out by the MD Office, there is currently no funding available to carry out any works in this area."

Mayor Heavey in turn said that he accepted KCC's report, and in particular welcomed KCC's openness to carrying out an assessment of the junction.
