An update has been provided by Kildare County Council (KCC) in relation to an Active Travel and Safe Routes to School project.
The status of the project was sought by Fine Gael councillor Kevin Duffy at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, November 19 last.
While in attendance at this meeting, Cllr Duffy asked KCC to provide an update on "the timeframe to commence the Part 8 for the Monasterevin Active Travel and Safe Routes to School project".
In response to his query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "Following suggested amendments from the National Transport Authority (NTA), KCC's consultants are revising the draft design for the scheme."

KCC added that once the NTA has approved the design, the scheme will be presented to the elected members "in the first instance" and then brought through a statutory public consultation process.
Cllr Duffy told KCC that accepted the report, but also asked: "Do we have a target date in mind?"
A KCC official who was in attendance at the meeting replied: "When the NTA's allocations are announced in February of March [2026], then we will know."
However, Cllr Duffy was not satisfied with this reply — he claimed: "I have raised this matter on three or four different occasions."
"It just feels like we are going around in circles," he told the official: "We need to go to the Part 8 [process]."
Following these comments, the KCC official assured Cllr Duffy that they would revert back to him with a timeline.
