The newly-opened Leixlip playground
Kildare County Council has announced the official opening of the new Leixlip Playground at Station Road, alongside a newly constructed car park.
This milestone represents a significant investment of €1,082,225 in the town's community amenities, reflecting the council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly, local elected representatives, and members of the community.
The playground is designed as a benchmark for inclusive play, offering a diverse and stimulating environment for children of all ages and abilities. It features innovative and engaging play equipment, sensory elements, and accessible features designed to promote imaginative, physical, and social development in a safe and welcoming environment.

This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance community infrastructure in Leixlip, including:
The construction of the new playground at Station Road, with inclusive play equipment, sensory elements, and accessible design.
The relocation and refurbishment of the previous playground to The Wonderful Barn, providing an additional high-quality play area.
The development of a new car park at Station Road, incorporating state-of-the-art Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS). The new car park is a significant “Pathfinder” flagship project, showcasing innovative Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) features that manage stormwater runoff in a sustainable manner, reducing flood risk, improving water quality, and enhancing the areas overall visual appeal.
Speaking at the event, the Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly said: "This €1,082,225 investment in the Leixlip Playground and car park demonstrates Kildare County Council’s unwavering commitment to creating vibrant and sustainable communities. The playground offers an inclusive space for children to play, learn and grow, while the new car park incorporates environmentally conscious design principles, setting a new standard for sustainable infrastructure in the county."
Joe English, Intel Ireland Factory Manager added: “Intel is proud to have supported the new playground through a funding contribution. The facility is a wonderful example of a collaborative project that serves the broader community here in North Kildare. It is particularly notable that the playground has prioritised accessibility at its core, making it a welcoming and inclusive amenity that will remain a valuable resource for many years to come.”
