Woman tells Kildare court her husband is a pedophile

Naas Courthouse

A woman told Naas District Court that her husband is a paedophile.

She made the allegation during a family law hearing and the man was not present or represented.

The woman also alleged he sexually abused her eldest child, who is now an adult.

She claimed the child was a pre-teen at the time and the incidents “took place over a long period of time.”

She said he had served divorce papers on her and she was afraid that the man would learn of the child’s whereabouts.

The court heard that the older child had made a statement to the gardaí.

The woman said the man has been aggressive to her in the past and she “threw him out of the house” a few years ago.

She claimed he wants access to one of the children and the child does not want this.

Judge Desmond Zaidan said because one of the children is now an adult they herself can make an application for court protection.

He said he would grant an interim protection order "reluctantly" to protect the youngest child, because the older one can do it for themselves.

He also said these “are only allegations” and adjourned the case to May 25 for a fuller hearing.
