Garda Declan Hayes said that the incident occurred on December 1 in the general Robertstown area. He said he received a report of an incident and the defendant was “having an argument with his father.”
The defendant was arrested and he was seen by a doctor who sent him to Naas Hospital.
The garda added the defendant was later collected by his mother. Gda Hayes said he was shouting at her and smashed the windscreen.
Asked by Judge Desmond Zaidan if the defendant was injured, the garda replied he sustained a cut to his hand.
The garda said he had no objection to bail being granted, subject to conditions being imposed.
He said the defendant is to stay away from his home address, provide an alternative address, sign on three times a week at Naas garda station, maintain sober habits and have no contact with his parents.
Replying to Judge Zaidan, the garda said the defendant is abusing drugs.
“The State is alleging he took drugs and went mad,” commented Judge Zaidan, adding he was lucky there was no objection to bail because if there was he would have refused to grant it.
“This is the way he treated his parents allegedly. His mother picks him up from hospital and that’s the thanks she gets,” added Judge Zaidan.
He adjourned the case to May 6.
